Edith saved Harold's body at the Battle of Hastings.
Now SHE needs FRIENDS to save her.

Become one of the
FRIENDS OF EDITH
and help protect her
and her heritage
The Friends of Edith (FoE) are committed to protecting
Edith’s statue in West Marina Gardens, St Leonards-on-Sea
so that her long-forgotten story from 1,000 years ago can enrich our lives today
and help us celebrate our local and national history. Her story connects directly to our present Royal Family, to the Nation’s history, the county of Sussex, and to the continuing struggle for womens’ equality.
She was Harold’s consort for 20 years and they had 7 children together:
she was a devoted mother and partner as well as head of her many estates.
Always in the shadows of history, she was nevertheless a strong and charismatic woman whose life has many echoes for today.
She was the lady of her community looking out for her people: now it’s time for the people to look out for HER, to preserve her monument and foster a collective spirit in her name.
